Gas Hobs

You can buy white, stainless steel, and gas on glass some with basic pan supports some with cast iron pan supports as well as different amount burners and wok style cooking. You can use all types of pans on these.
Solid Plate Hobs
These hobs are the cheapest hobs that you can buy so if price is key then this could be for you; we have many engineers and electricians that take these to fit into many rental homes. They come in white and stainless steel. You can use all types of pans on these.
Ceramic Hobs
This type of hob really suits people would want something much more stylish in their kitchen and who wants a hob that heats quicker than the solid plate type. These are usually black in colour although white are available. Ceramic hobs are made with a glass top which you pan sits on and the heat from the element underneath the glass top heats the pan. You can use all type of pans on these.
Induction Hobs
This hob is really the best one out of all the electric hobs available, this is due to the fact that they heat the liquid in the pan almost three times quicker than ceramic. The control over the temperature is instant just like using gas, when you turn up the heat they instantly heat, when you turn down the heat it instantly goes down. Induction hobs do not have an element within the appliance like ceramic; they heat in a different way. With induction they heat with a magnetic field which only heats the liquid in the pan nothing else, with this in mind you can boil a pan of liquid and touch the glass where the pan has been and although it will be warm, will not burn. It only gets warm because the liquid within the pan has heated the pan and the pan has heated the glass top. You can also cook food with a cloth in between the hob and the pan and it will not burn the cloth, great if you are making jam. You can only use pans that have a steel base. An easy way to check is if a magnet will stick to it then it will be fine.
